I would like to lead class discussion on week 16: The Collapse of French Indochina.
I would like to present on the 2002 Venezuelan coup attempt on week 25.
Finally, I would like to present on the development of film music from the 1960s through 1980 on week 26.
I would like to lead class discussion on week 22: the cold war.
I would dlike to present on the 1981 Nicaraguan 'Contras' on week 26.
I would like to also present on the History of the Internet. ( not sure what time period that would be.) i would like to present that on week 23.
I would like to lead class discussion on week 21: The Cultural Revolution in China.
I would like to present on the 1963 South Vietnamese coup on week 18.
Lastly, I would like to present on the Progression of Video Game Consoles between the 1970s and 1990s, on week 23.
I would like to lead class discussion on week 19 (February 14): The Suez Crisis, 1956.
I would also like to present on the Iranian coup of 1953 on week 23 (March 14)
Lastly, I would like to research the beginnings of nuclear technology and its effects on warfare on week 22 (March 7).
Because the first nuclear bomb used in action was int the 40's, would I be able to do some research in that decade? or should I try to stick with the 50's?
@Mark try to stick with the 1950s. You can always add some 1940s context, however.
Will do. Also, since this is a social history project, I will try and cover the impact nuclear technology had on society as well.
Would leading the discussion next week be okay (or is that too early)? If that's a go, I'd happily lead discussion this coming Thursday, Week 14.
I'd like to present on the Dominican Republic coup, Week 22. Did that begin with the assassination of Rafael Trujillo? I did some quick research, but I was having a hard time finding sources that specifically mentioned a "coup" in the Dominican Republic.
For the Social History project, I'd like to discuss film-score from 1980s-1990s. I see Max already took the 1960s-1980. I'll probably mostly discuss John Williams and how he brought back orchestral soundtrack. I'd like to present that on Week 27 (as it builds on what Max will have presented the previous week).
Also, I've got a quick question. Do we present on the Thursday that marks the beginning of our given week or the Thursday that ends it?
@Mark I'd like you to think about doing a different coup.
@Ian the 14th is fine for leading discussion. Presentation dates are organized like homework dates. If you are signed up for week X, you will present on that actual week.
@Ian if you have any research questions vis-a-vis your coup presentation, I can help you find sources.
@Mr. Parker, did you have any particular coup in mind? Or do you just have a personal vendetta against the Iranian coup...heh.
But I am open to the Afghanistan resistance of 1979 unless you have another in mind.
@Mark It was one of the by request only options. But on second thought, no-one is leading discussion on week 17, so feel free to do the Iran coup. Sorry for the confusion.
@Mr. Parker: Okay, thank you!
On a different subject, I recently talked to Max. He was actually planning on incorporating a lot of what I mentioned for my Social History project. While I love film-music, I'm sure Max will have plenty to say. I'll try and come up with another idea and post it soon.
I would like to lead discussion on week 24: The Cold War: Red army faction 1968 Munich olympics massacre and black september, 1972.
I would like to present 1960 Congo coup on week 20.
And I'll do the Devolution of family dinners for my Social History Presentation on week 18.
Given it some thought, and I'll now do the rise of movie animations (cartoons, claymations, etc.), for my Social History Project on Week 27.
I would like to do the Argentine group on week 21. For the social history, I am going to do music from the '80's on week 23 and for the discussion leader, I will choose week 19
I would like to do the 1979 Afghanistan resistance if thats okay..even though its by request only. And for the social History presentation, I would like to do Technology in the 1990's. Week 26.
